Cholla Fruit: Beauty Erupts #2

The same cholla, this time showing the yellow fruit that remains long after the pink flowers are gone. Clustered and bumpy against the dense white spines, the fruit has a weight and texture the delicate blooms never hold. I enlarged them for the same reason—so the ordinary, lasting part of the plant could claim the same attention as the fleeting flowers. The spines still radiate outward, but here the yellow forms sit solidly among them, a reminder of what the cactus keeps year-round.
